MONTHLY TUESDAY WORKSHOPS

Program overview

• The COOL Cohort is a weekend and after-school program for middle and high school students.
• Provides immersive film education led by industry professionals.
• Tiered education that provides students with a certificate of completion upon  graduation.
• Offers practical work experience through paid opportunities for individuals aged 16 and older.

Skill Development & Career Preparation

• Focuses on developing expertise in collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership.
• Equips participants with essential skills and industry connections.
• Supports students in transitioning to professional roles upon graduation.
• Facilitates valuable networking within the film industry.

WORKSHOPS                                                  Introductory Classes

• Led by industry professionals.
• Allows students to explore their specific areas of interest in greater depth.
• After School and on Weekends

• Held on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
• Tailored for new students to cover fundamental aspects of the film industry.
• Prepares participants for diverse opportunities within the program

Opportunities and Engagement

Students at any level can participate in:

• Commercial shoots, taking on roles such as operating the camera, lights, and sound equipment.
• Red carpet events within the community, gaining experience in interviewing.
• Short films produced by our fellows as crew members.

Production Pods:​​

• Students level 2 and above.
• Small production groups (pods) are formed to enable students to create their own projects from inception to completion.
• Projects can be based on students' original ideas or that of a mentor.
• Overseen by a mentor and the Cohort Lead.

Production Department

• Production Assistant (PA) – Helps anywhere needed: fetching gear, making copies, setting up scenes.
• Script Supervisor Assistant – Helps keep track of scene details for continuity.
• Clapper/Slate Operator – Marks each take for editing.
• Runner – Handles errands for crew members.

Camera Department

• Camera Operator (Youth or B-Camera) – Operates smaller cameras for behind-the-scenes or second angles.
• 2nd Assistant Camera (Clapper Loader) – Handles memory cards, lenses, and uses the slate.
• Camera Trainee – Learns by helping set up tripods, lights, and cables.

Lighting & Grip

• Lighting Assistant – Helps set up small lights and reflectors.
• Grip Assistant – Holds bounce boards, flags, or helps set up dollies.

​Sound Department

• Boom Operator – Holds the microphone above the action.
• Sound Assistant – Checks batteries, tests mics, helps monitor audio.

Art Department

• Props Coordinator – Finds or organizes props for scenes.
• Set Dresser – Places objects on set for the right look.
• Storyboard Artist – Draws simple scene plans for the director.

Costume & Makeup

• Wardrobe Assistant – Helps keep costumes organized between scenes.
• Makeup Assistant – Assists with simple touch-ups.

Post-Production

• Assistant Editor – Organizes footage before the final cut.
• Sound Editor (Youth) – Finds or records sound effects.
• Title Designer – Creates opening/closing credits or graphics.

Promotion & Outreach

• Behind-the-Scenes Videographer – Records the process of making the film.
• Social Media Coordinator – Posts updates, photos, and short clips.
• Event Host – Introduces screenings or panels.
