Founded in 2014, we educate,develop and celebrate the next generation of Louisiana Storytellers. Centralized in New Orleans, the COOL provides technical training and mentorship that translates into critical skills needed for the workforce. As an organization focused on providing innovative, student-centered education, we are excited to offer an internship opportunity for aspiring middle or high school educators. This internship will offer hands-on experience in teaching, curriculum development, and classroom management, all while making a meaningful impact in the lives of young learners.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and driven Middle or High School Education Intern to support our educators and assist in the daily functions of our middle school classrooms. As an intern, you will work closely with teachers to implement lesson plans, support student learning, and gain invaluable experience in classroom management. You will have the chance to actively engage with students, observe teaching practices, and contribute to an inclusive learning environment. Because we are a film non-profit, the internship will also involve learning about storytelling and the use of film equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
● Assist teachers in preparing and delivering lesson plans and activities. ● Support students in small group settings.
● Help create educational materials and resources to support lesson delivery. ● Observe classroom management techniques and contribute to maintaining a positive classroom environment.
● Assist with grading assignments, quizzes, and homework.
● Participate in classroom and school-wide activities, events, and meetings. ● Participate in film related events, such as our student film slam.
● Collaborate with fellow interns and educators to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.
Qualifications:
● Current enrollment in a Middle or High School Education program or related field. ● A genuine interest in working with middle/high school students and helping them succeed academically.
● Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
● Enthusiasm for learning and commitment to personal growth in education. ● Previous experience in a classroom setting (volunteer work, tutoring, etc.) is a plus but not required.
● Interest in film production or having any film production background, is a plus but not required.
Learning Opportunities:
● Hands-on teaching experience and mentorship from experienced educators. ● Exposure to a wide variety of instructional techniques and educational tools. ● Development of key skills in classroom management, lesson planning, and student engagement.
● Insight into the daily responsibilities of a middle/high school teacher.
