Andrea Morningstar

Andrea Morningstar is an Emmy Award–winning filmmaker and the Administrator of the Heritage Documentary Project at The COOL Cooperative. She oversees HDP’s documentary curriculum and works closely with educators and fellows to guide students through the full filmmaking process—from research and interviews to filming and story development.

Andrea’s background spans public media, commercial directing, and social impact storytelling. She founded a women’s filmmaking collective in Detroit and served as the first Editor-in-Chief of the Great Lakes Bureau at Detroit Public Television, leading collaborative environmental and cultural storytelling initiatives.

An experienced educator and mentor, Andrea has taught at Interlochen, the University of Missouri–Columbia, and Maine Media Workshops. Through HDP, she combines professional production expertise with a commitment to ethical, community-centered storytelling, helping students document the histories and voices that shape their world.
